Valentines Day Party In the Classroom

Valentines Day Classroom Party

I’m gearing up for two classroom parties for my young kids, and I am pondering the question…”Other than the traditional valentines card exchange, what shall we do with our time?” Our classroom parties usually involves snacks (or should I say sweets?) and games. And since I think there will be enough candy to go around, I personally focused on the games!

Active Games

Catch My Heart

Red or pink bean bag toss and catch is played one of two ways. With one bean bag, group can form a circle, and the bean bag gets tossed to another player. To find a winner, simply have any player who drops the bean bag step out of the game. With multiple bean bags, players can team up and stand a set distance apart. Each time the bags are tossed, players take a step back. To find a winner, have any team that drops the bag step out of the game.

Match-Maker

Players draw names and try to find the other player that drew the name of their match. For example, matches might include Shrek & Fiona, Mickey & Minnie Mouse, Cinderella & Prince Charming

Valentines Pictionary

Played like traditional pictionary, players take turns picking out a card and silently drawing the valentines related thing. (For pre-reading age, whisper what it is they need to draw out.) Players have 60 seconds to guess, and the player who guesses correctly gets the next turn. If no player answers within 60 seconds, then choose someone who has not had a turn to go up next. Examples of valentines related things: cupid’s arrow, a broken heart, box of chocolates, flowers, love letter, cupid, candy hearts and lovebirds.

Musical Chairs Variation

Players scramble to find seats when a category (such as ‘everyone wearing pink’ or ‘everyone who has a dog’) is called out. There are no winners or losers, so players keep participating as long as they wish.

Balloon Pop

Prep this game with inflated balloons, each with a note in it, and a string tied to it. Players get to choose their balloon, then pop it to see who has the note that says…winner.

Games Involving Candy

Candy Hearts & Chopsticks

With a bowl of candy hearts in the middle, players each use a set of chopsticks to try to grab as many candy hearts out of the bowl and into their own pile. Set a time limit to find a winner, and the player with the most candy hearts, wins.

Candy Necklaces

Made any number of ways, starting with a red licorice string. Necklace ‘beads’ could include fruit loops, lifesavers, marshmallows, and candy rings. No winners, just lots of great necklaces.

Quiet Games

Little Notes for Friends & Neighbors

Friends & Neighbors has students writing something nice about their neighbor (classmate) to the left, and Little Notes has players writing a letter of praise or kindness to a favorite family member – with special delivery on Valentine’s Day! And a shameless promotion for our website, if you’d like to print it instead of creating it …Little Notes

Picture Bingo

A group favorite among kids, even if you don’t use edible candy hearts as markers. Here’s the easy and effortless way to make the game: Valentines Picture Bingo

Valentine Kiss-Off

Played with lipstick (darker colors are better) and face silhouettes on several sheets of paper. Set a time limit of 30 seconds, and when you say ‘GO’, players try to kiss the face silhouette and leave lipstick marks as many times as possible. The player with the most lipstick kisses at the end of the time period, wins.

Love Letter Mad Lib

Played like a traditional mad lib. Let players complete the game individually, or as a team.
